Objective: To establish how the cognitive activities of treatment and conversion of the semiotic representations, favor the process of solving contextual problems related to the concept of the quadratic function. Methodology: application of a didactic unit that includes specific aspects regarding the quadratic function and the direct application of its representations in problems that favor the treatment and conversion of its representation registers; the result analysis was performed by means of a qualitative method, given the semiotic representations and problem solving theories. Conclusions: the mobility and treatment among the semiotic representations of the quadratic function are definitely useful at the time of solving problems in context, which require the approach of any of its representation registers.
