Objective: to establish an estimate to the connotations given by teachers to their relationship with students in their daily activity. Methodology: a qualitative study with a phenomenological hermeneutical research method that analyzes the experience of teachers who work at the educational institution María Goretti in Manizales city, a school in which adults are doing their secondary school studies. To gather the information needed for this study, individual interviews and focus groups were utilized. Findings: the psycho-pedagogical analysis regarding the pedagogical task with adult students reveals the importance of a solid, explicit, practical and verifiable humanization in the teacher-student interaction. Conclusions: the pedagogical praxis still responds to a traditional and strict logic; it is imperative to highlight the importance of the vital cycle of education in adults as well as it is necessary to learn how to see students as a valid counterpart in the socio-educational dynamics.
