GENDER VIOLENCE: SOME REFERENTIAL - THEORETICAL APPROACHES

Abstract

This article presents a series of theoretical and investigative references about the gender violence, in order to achieve an approximation to the problem acknowledging their status, causes and affects over the population. Thus, the text makes a journey through different definitions of the key terms: subject, gender and violence; it presents a historical overview of the evolution of the phenomenon studied; and then, it explains the violence as a practice established since culture. Finally, possible prevention strategies are indicated from State responsibility and the need to focus on education as a tool to create awareness.
