Objective: to present the findings of a research carried out from the classification of students based on the 4Q whole brain-learning model and its application in the design of term tests for each profile inside the Programming level II course of the Systems Engineering Program from Catholic University of Manizales and The Computing Program from The Technological University of Pereira. Methodology: education research with qualitative analysis inside an academic context, which makes possible the study and the analysis of multiple cases. The process of data collection was based on interviews with students, on profile formulation and on students’ feedback. Regarding the technological aspect, a spreadsheet as a tabulating tool for data processing was used. Findings: the characterization of students allowed the achievement of better outcomes in the tests with less effort than before, made possible the communication in both, students and professors, and the establishment of guidelines that enabled the understanding of autonomy, interaction and communication inside the classroom. Conclusions: term tests were conceived as a great instrument used to empower learning, they are more effective when they are designed according to the profiles of a specific model, which, in this case was the 4Q whole brain-learning model.
