Objective: to reflect critically on university training in psychology. Methodology: the analysis stems from documentary research on institutional school projects (PEI) and educational projects (PEP) of 36 undergraduate programs in Psychology of the official and private sectors, and official documents of international agencies that guide the formulation guidelines for public policies in Colombia and Latin America. Conclusions: the training concept was meant for training and education, aimed from the standpoint of labor skills. Thus, the training proposal is based on the theory of human capital, promoted by multilateral financial organisms. Thus, the ultimate meaning of the formation is in function of the changing demands of the labor market.
