LINGUISTIC ATTITUDES CONCERNING THE VOSEO LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA OF MODERN LANGUAGES PROFESSORS AT CALDAS UNIVERSITY

Objective: to specify some of the sociolinguistic implications generated by the linguistic attitudes of the Modern Languages Professors at Caldas University towards the usage and teaching of the voseo linguistic phenomena. Methodology: Sociolinguistic specific techniques such as observation, interview and survey were applied. Such techniques were addressed to the establishment of language, social and stylistic variables. Findings: a strong tendency towards stigmatization and standardization of the variety of the voseo linguistic phenomena was found in the participants of this study. Conclusions: middle-income professors younger than 40 years old, at Postgraduate level of education are the individuals who present a tendency of reduction in the frequency of usage of the voseo linguistic phenomena and their disapproval to the voseo as a topic when teaching Spanish as mother, second and foreign language.
