The present review article intends to show the characteristics of the current process of the Uruguayan system of social protection, in particular, those that apply to young people. To achieve this goal a mixed methodology was designed to address the analysis of the information contained in the National Statistics Institute and the Social Policy Observatory of the Uruguayan Ministry of Development. The study concludes that during the last twenty years new population groups were included in the considerations to establish public policies, among which youth is present with particular emphasis on the educational sector.
